In response to the Centre’s latest directive following the Pahalgam terror attack, the Telangana government has asked all Pakistani nationals currently residing in the state, especially in Hyderabad, to leave India before April 27. The order is part of the nationwide enforcement of India’s decision to revoke most categories of visas issued to Pakistani citizens, excluding long-term, diplomatic, and official visas. Medical visas, however, will remain valid until April 29. According to state police records, 208 Pakistani nationals are currently in Telangana, the majority of whom are in Hyderabad.
Visa revocation and deadline details
In a statement issued on Friday, Telangana’s Director General of Police, Dr. Jitender, confirmed that visa services for Pakistani nationals have been suspended with immediate effect, in accordance with the central government’s orders. He clarified that all existing visas for Pakistani citizens stand cancelled from April 27, except for holders of Long Term Visas (LTVs), which are typically granted to those married to Indian citizens or with blood relatives in India. Diplomatic and official visa holders are also exempt from the revocation.
He further stated that the Attari border would remain open until April 30 for Pakistani nationals to exit the country. Citizens from Pakistan who continue to stay in Telangana beyond the permitted date risk facing legal consequences, and the police have initiated a verification drive to identify any individuals overstaying their visa limits.
Breakdown of Pakistani nationals in Telangana
The DGP revealed that out of the 208 Pakistani nationals currently staying in Telangana, 156 individuals hold long-term visas. These people largely consist of those with marital or familial ties in India. In addition, 12 Pakistani citizens are on short-term visas, while 39 others have been granted medical or business-related visas. None of the Pakistani nationals in the state were found to be holding SAARC visas, which are typically issued to officials, journalists, and athletes.
In light of the heightened security measures and deteriorating bilateral ties, Telangana authorities are ensuring compliance with the Centre’s instructions and have intensified efforts to trace and remove any individuals residing illegally. The move reflects a nationwide push to tighten border controls and reinforce national security through coordinated actions between state and central agencies.
