The departure of Team India from Barbados and their anticipated arrival in Delhi has faced additional delays due to the threat posed by Hurricane Beryl in the island nation. Initially scheduled to leave Barbados by 6 PM local time on Tuesday with an expected arrival in Delhi by Wednesday evening, the team’s travel plans have since been altered.
According to Vikrant Gupta of India Today, the team is now projected to land in Delhi in the early hours of Thursday morning, possibly around 4-5 AM.
“In a recent update, it has been confirmed that Team India will land in Delhi at 6 AM on Thursday,” tweeted Vikrant Gupta.
The Indian team clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy by defeating South Africa on June 29. Since then, they have been stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, which intensified from category 3 to category 4 as it made landfall on July 1.
Hurricane Beryl: Latest Developments
According to Reuters, Hurricane Beryl is currently moving towards Jamaica, issuing warnings across Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
“The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has forecasted life-threatening winds and storm surges in Jamaica on Wednesday, followed by the Cayman Islands on Wednesday night and Thursday,” stated the report.
Team India is expected to fly directly to New Delhi upon their return, where they are scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister. Despite flight cancellations caused by Hurricane Beryl, the BCCI has been working to arrange a chartered plane for the safe return of players, support staff, and their families who have been stranded in Barbados.
As a precautionary measure, the team has remained stationed in their hotel amid the disruptions caused by Hurricane Beryl.
