Tata Technologies and BMW have joined forces in a strategic partnership to establish BMW TechWorks India, a 50:50 joint venture focused on driving the development of next-generation automotive technology. The venture aims to revolutionize software-defined vehicles (SDVs), automated driving, AI applications, next-gen infotainment systems, and business IT solutions, marking a significant milestone for both companies.
BMW TechWorks India, which will operate out of Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai, will initially start with 100 employees. The joint venture has ambitious plans to grow its workforce to a four-digit number by the end of 2025, drawing primarily from Indian engineering talent. The JV’s leadership team will include Aditya Khera as CEO and Sweta Girinatham as CFO, while BMW executives Oliver Scheickl and Stefan Flader will serve as COO of Automotive Software and COO of Business IT, respectively.
The partnership aims to accelerate BMW’s global initiatives in vehicle software development. The joint venture will play a key role in advancing BMW’s business IT solutions, contributing to the digital transformation of its production network, customer journey, and sales processes. AI applications will be a focal point of research, further enhancing the efficiency of BMW Group’s business operations.
Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Electronics and Software at BMW Group, expressed his optimism about the partnership. “BMW TechWorks India is a significant addition to our global vehicle software development initiatives. India’s software talent will be a great asset for our software-defined vehicles of the future. Engineers at BMW TechWorks India will co-create innovative automotive digital experiences such as automated driving and next-gen infotainment systems.”
