In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu, all 39 constituencies have commenced polling, marking the beginning of the seven-phase electoral process. The outcome of this keenly contested battle involving the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will be announced on June 4.
Notable candidates in Tamil Nadu include the state BJP president K Annamalai, who is contesting from Coimbatore against DMK leader Ganapathy P Rajkumar and AIADMK’s Singai Ramachandran. In the Chennai South Lok Sabha seat, BJP’s Tamilisai Soundararajan faces competition from DMK’s Thamizhachi Thangapandian and AIADMK’s J Jayavardhan.
The constituencies in Tamil Nadu where polling is underway are as follows: Thiruvallur (SC), Chennai North, Chennai South, Chennai Central, Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram (SC), Arakkonam, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Arani, Villupuram (SC), Kallakurichi, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruppur, Nilgiris (SC), Coimbatore, Pollachi, Dindigul, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Chidambaram (SC), Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam (SC), Thanjavur, Sivaganga, Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukkudi, Tenkasi (SC), Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari.
In addition to the electoral proceedings, BJP’s Annamalai has raised allegations against DMK and AIADMK, claiming they are spending over Rs 1,000 crore in Coimbatore.
