The Swadesh Darshan Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, stands as a beacon of progress and development in India’s tourism sector. Launched in 2014-15 with the aim of promoting thematic tourist circuits across the country, the scheme has undergone a significant transformation in 2024 with the introduction of Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0). This revamped version heralds a new era of sustainable and responsible tourism development, aligning with global efforts to foster environmental conservation and community empowerment.

Under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, the Ministry of Tourism has shifted its focus towards developing tourism destinations that not only attract visitors but also contribute to the socio-economic well-being of local communities and preserve the natural environment. With a destination and tourism-centric approach, SD2.0 aims to create lasting positive impacts by promoting sustainable practices and responsible tourism management.

– The original Swadesh Darshan Scheme, implemented from 2014-15 to 2018-19, sanctioned a total of 76 projects across 31 States/UTs, covering various thematic circuits identified for tourism development.

– These projects received substantial financial support, with a total allocated budget of Rs. 5292.57 Crore, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing tourism infrastructure and experiences.

– In the latest development, the Ministry has notified 57 destinations for development under SD2.0, marking a strategic shift towards inclusivity and sustainability in tourism planning and implementation.
