A tense situation unfolded outside the BJP office in Kolkata on Sunday when a suspicious object was discovered, triggering alarm among party members present. Promptly responding to the incident, police teams, along with bomb disposal squads and canine units, swiftly arrived at the scene.
Initially, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya asserted that a crude bomb had been found outside the BJP’s office in Kolkata. However, news agency ANI later reported that the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) clarified the object in question was not a bomb, alleviating immediate concerns.
According to Kolkata Police sources, the situation arose near the BJP’s office at 6, Muralidhar Lane, just ahead of a scheduled visit by a high-profile fact-finding committee investigating post-poll violence. This committee includes notable figures such as a former Chief Minister, Cabinet Minister, and DGP of Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement shared online, Amit Malviya expressed concern over the timing of the incident, linking it to the committee’s impending visit. He pointedly criticized West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, holding her accountable for what he described as a security lapse under her watch as the state’s Home Minister.
Simultaneously, in another development, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, accompanied by victims of post-poll violence, met with West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose at Raj Bhavan. This meeting underscored ongoing political tensions and concerns over law and order in the state.
As investigations into the incident continue, authorities are working to determine the nature and origins of the suspicious object found outside the BJP office in Kolkata. The swift response by law enforcement agencies averted any potential threat, ensuring the safety of the surroundings.
