In a stunning display of power hitting, Sunil Narine led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to victory against the Delhi Capitals (DC), catapulting KKR to the top of the IPL 2024 points table. The match, held at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, saw KKR emerge victorious by a massive 106-run margin.
Narine’s scintillating knock of 85 runs powered KKR to a formidable total of 272-7, marking the second-highest ever score in IPL history. Opening the batting, Narine’s blitzkrieg included seven fours and seven sixes, propelling KKR to their third consecutive win of the season.
The victory not only elevated KKR to the top spot in the points table but also boosted their net run rate significantly. Meanwhile, DC’s slump continued as they suffered their third loss in four matches, plummeting to the 9th spot in the table.
Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant’s valiant effort, scoring 55 runs off 25 balls, was not enough to salvage the match for his team. Despite Pant’s fifty and Tristan Stubbs’ contribution of 54 runs, DC faltered in their chase, ultimately being bowled out for 166 runs in 17.2 overs.
KKR’s dominance was further highlighted by Andre Russell’s explosive innings of 41 runs off 19 balls, along with notable contributions from debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh. The innings featured a total of 18 sixes and 22 fours, showcasing KKR’s formidable batting prowess.
On the bowling front, KKR’s Mitchell Starc made a significant impact, claiming crucial wickets including that of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy and medium-pacer Vaibhav Arora also played pivotal roles, contributing with three wickets each to seal KKR’s comprehensive victory.
With this impressive win, KKR solidifies their position at the top of the IPL 2024 points table, while DC faces an uphill battle to revive their campaign in the tournament.
