Sunetra Pawar, the Mahayuti candidate for the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra, visited the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple in Pune accompanied by her husband, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. This visit comes ahead of her scheduled nomination filing on Thursday, marking a significant moment in one of Maharashtra’s most closely watched electoral battles.
Sunetra Pawar’s candidacy puts her in direct competition with her sister-in-law, incumbent MP Supriya Sule, who represents the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the constituency. Both candidates are vying for the political legacy associated with the Pawar family in Baramati.
Echoing support for Sunetra Pawar’s candidacy, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed aspirations for significant contributions from Maharashtra to Prime Minister Modi’s re-election bid. He emphasized the presence of the Chief Minister and himself during Mahayuti candidates’ nomination filings as a show of solidarity.
In anticipation of filing her nomination, Sunetra Pawar expressed gratitude for the opportunity and sought divine blessings for her electoral journey. The Baramati seat holds historical significance as a stronghold of the Pawar family, with Supriya Sule securing victory in the last three Lok Sabha elections.
Maharashtra, with its 48 Lok Sabha seats, holds substantial electoral weight in national politics. The upcoming polls in the state are scheduled across five phases, with Baramati slated for voting in the third phase on May 7. The outcome of these elections will play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape of Maharashtra and the nation at large.
In the previous 2019 elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra, securing 23 seats, closely followed by the Shiv Sena with 18 seats.
