Highlights
  • Chamari Athapaththu’s explosive form and Malki Madara’s disciplined bowling could prove decisive on a spin-friendly Grenada pitch.
  • Sri Lanka Women enter the final T20I with a 1-0 lead, while West Indies Women must win to level the series.

The third and final T20I between West Indies Women and Sri Lanka Women will be played at the National Cricket Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada, on Tuesday, March 3. With Sri Lanka holding a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, the hosts must win to level the series, while the visitors will aim to seal it with another disciplined performance.

The opening game was washed out due to rain after West Indies were struggling at 49 in 13.3 overs. Sri Lanka had reached 7/0 in 2.5 overs before the weather intervened. The second T20I, however, delivered a result as Sri Lanka secured a convincing four-wicket victory.

After choosing to bowl first, Sri Lanka’s disciplined attack bundled out West Indies for 101. Hayley Matthews top-scored with 28 runs, but lacked substantial support from the middle order. Malki Madara and Nilakshika Silva claimed three wickets each, while captain Chamari Athapaththu chipped in with two scalps.

In the chase, Athapaththu led from the front with a brisk 39 off 26 deliveries and stitched a 62-run opening partnership. Sri Lanka comfortably chased down 102 in 18.1 overs, taking control of the series.

National Cricket Stadium Pitch Report

The surface at the National Cricket Stadium has shown assistance for spinners, as seen in recent ODI fixtures. The pitch tends to slow down as the game progresses, making stroke-making challenging.

Batters will need to spend time at the crease before accelerating. The powerplay overs could prove crucial, with openers looking to capitalise on fielding restrictions. A score around 140–150 may prove competitive given the conditions.

Probable Best Performers

Probable Best Batter: Chamari Athapaththu
The Sri Lankan skipper has been in strong form and is currently the leading run-scorer of the series. Her aggressive approach at the top sets the tone for Sri Lanka. After scoring 39 in the previous match, Athapaththu will once again be central to her team’s chances.

Probable Best Bowler: Malki Madara
The right-arm pacer has impressed with five wickets in two innings while conceding just 25 runs. Her ability to strike early and maintain tight lines makes her a key weapon for Sri Lanka in the decider.

With the series on the line, both teams will be eager to deliver a strong performance. Sri Lanka will look to carry forward their momentum, while West Indies will aim to regroup and force a shared outcome. The final T20I promises a competitive battle in Grenada.
