Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) leader Prem Singh Tamang is scheduled to take oath as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for a second consecutive term on Monday, according to officials.
Governor Lakshman Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Prem Singh Tamang and his Council of Ministers during a swearing-in ceremony at Paljor stadium in Gangtok.
Prem Singh Tamang will lead a council of ministers comprising 12 members, including himself. The ceremony, expected to draw around 30,000 attendees, will commence at 4 pm.
Stringent security measures have been implemented across Gangtok in anticipation of the event.
Prem Singh Tamang, aged 56, led SKM to a resounding victory in the assembly polls and secured the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim. He was unanimously chosen as the leader of the legislature party on June 2.
SKM secured 31 out of 32 assembly seats in the polls, held concurrently with the Lok Sabha elections. Prem Singh Tamang emerged victorious from both Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung constituencies.
In contrast, the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), which had governed the state for 25 consecutive years until 2019, only managed to win one seat.
