Right-handed batter Shreyas Iyer has dismissed reports suggesting that he will miss Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy match due to a shoulder injury. After scoring a brilliant century against Maharashtra in the ongoing Ranji season, Shreyas Iyer took to social media to refute claims about his fitness, calling out what he termed “fake news.” The cricketer expressed his frustration on X (formerly Twitter), criticizing a user for spreading incorrect information and urging the media to “do some homework” before publishing such reports.
The confusion arose when reports circulated online that Shreyas Iyer was set to miss Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Tripura, scheduled to begin on October 26 at the Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium in Agartala. According to one such report, Shreyas Iyer was reportedly sidelined due to a shoulder injury, and BCCI sources were quoted as saying that he needed at least a week of rest. Shreyas Iyer, however, debunked these reports, confirming his availability for the match and calling out the user who had shared the false information on social media. The user later deleted the post after Shreyas Iyer’s response.
Shreyas Iyer, who made a remarkable comeback to form last week with a stunning 142-run knock off 190 balls against Maharashtra, played a crucial role in Mumbai’s victory in their second Ranji Trophy match of the season. His performance helped the team bounce back after an unexpected defeat in their opening match against Baroda. Shreyas Iyer’s century not only reinforced his place as a key player in Mumbai’s lineup but also silenced critics who had questioned his form following a difficult period in international cricket.
Speaking about his recent performance, Shreyas Iyer emphasized the importance of listening to his body and making decisions based on his own understanding of his physical limits. “No matter what people think outside, I have to listen to my body because I know the threshold I’ve carried over the last few years. Based on that, I’ll make the right decision, and I hope my team will back me,” he said after his match-winning innings.
Earlier this year, Shreyas Iyer faced a challenging phase in his career when he was dropped from the Indian Test squad after a series of poor performances. Additionally, he was left out of the BCCI’s central contracts list, reportedly due to his absence from domestic cricket during his time away from the national team. However, with the Indian team set to tour Australia for a five-match Test series next month, Shreyas Iyer remains focused on proving his form and fitness in domestic cricket.
