The Delhi Police have successfully apprehended Vineet Malik, a notorious shooter linked to a sensational murder case in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Malik, who had been on the run and evading capture by frequently relocating within the Delhi-NCR region, was arrested near a traffic signal in Jagatpuri, New Delhi, following a tip-off.
Malik’s arrest is connected to a high-profile murder case from June 5, 2024, when Laakhan Singh, a young man, was shot dead in broad daylight in Murad Nagar, Ghaziabad. The murder, registered under FIR No. 364/24 at PS Kankarkheda, Meerut, includes charges of sections 302 (murder) and 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
The arrest was the culmination of a relentless pursuit by a dedicated team from the AEKC, Crime Branch, Delhi. This team utilized a combination of valuable intelligence, technical surveillance, and information from secret informers to trace Malik’s whereabouts.
After confirming Malik’s presence in Jagatpuri, the team executed a well-coordinated operation leading to his capture. During interrogation, Malik, a 42-year-old resident of Raj Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad, admitted to his involvement in the murder. He disclosed that the victim, Laakhan Singh, had been harassing his niece for an extended period, which led Malik and his relatives to take drastic action.
