Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, contesting from Asansol for the second time in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, expressed confidence in West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s capabilities to become India’s Prime Minister.
In a Media interview, Sinha conveyed a message to voters urging them to speak up for societal change. He highlighted the warmth and harmony prevalent in Asansol, terming it the “hottest constituency in terms of love and warmth.”
Responding to queries regarding his electoral prospects, Sinha acknowledged the legacy of his predecessor, Babul Supriyo, and expressed optimism about winning with a larger margin. He emphasized his focus on highlighting developmental work undertaken in Asansol.
Addressing allegations of corruption leveled against him and the BJP, Sinha defended himself and criticized the cessation of funds to Bengal by the Centre. He refrained from invoking religious sentiments for electoral gain, focusing instead on highlighting political parties’ track records.
Sinha further lauded Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, asserting her capability to counter Prime Minister Modi. He criticized the BJP’s campaign tactics and expressed confidence in Banerjee’s popularity.
Regarding recent controversies, including the Sandeshkhali incident, Sinha called for accountability and action against wrongdoers. He dismissed Amit Shah’s assertions of BJP’s electoral success in Bengal, attributing it to morale-boosting rhetoric.
Concluding the interview, Sinha pledged to work towards eradicating corruption and elevating Bengal’s status. He affirmed his commitment to democratic values and expressed determination to surpass previous electoral achievements.
