In a tragic incident on the Mumbai-Nagpur Highway, seven individuals lost their lives and several others sustained critical injuries following a head-on collision between two cars in Jalna, Maharashtra. The accident occurred around 11 pm on Friday near Kadvanchi village, shocking local residents and authorities alike.
According to reports from PTI, the victims hailed from Malad (East) in Mumbai and Buldhana district. The collision occurred when one of the vehicles was traveling in the wrong direction towards a fuel refilling pump, leading to a catastrophic impact.
The force of the collision was so intense that one of the Multi Utility Vehicles (MUV) involved broke through the crash barrier, plunging off the left side of the road. Rescue efforts were swiftly initiated by local villagers and police to extract those trapped in the wreckage, as per PTI officials.
Injured survivors were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Police authorities responded promptly to the scene upon receiving notification of the accident, ensuring necessary measures were taken to manage the aftermath and clear the roadway for traffic flow.
The Mumbai-Nagpur Highway, known as the Samruddhi Highway, spans 701 kilometers and serves as a vital six-lane expressway connecting these major cities in Maharashtra. The first phase of this significant infrastructure project, linking Nagpur to Shirdi, was inaugurated in December 2022, aiming to enhance connectivity and travel efficiency across the region.
