India is intensifying its global diplomatic efforts against terrorism by sending seven prominent Members of Parliament (MPs) from various political parties on international visits. These leaders have been chosen to represent India’s firm stand against terrorism, particularly in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. Their mission is to engage with foreign governments and international organizations, presenting India’s evidence and advocating a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism on the world stage.
Selected MPs and Their Diplomatic Missions
The seven MPs selected for this crucial outreach include Shashi Tharoor from the Indian National Congress (INC), Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha from Janata Dal (United), Kanimozhi Karunanidhi from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Supriya Sule from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Shrikant Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena.
Each leader has been assigned to lead delegations to key global regions. Shashi Tharoor, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs and a seasoned diplomat, is spearheading the delegation to the United States. Known for his expertise in foreign policy, Tharoor is expected to effectively communicate India’s resolute stance on terrorism in the US, a critical partner in global counterterrorism.
Ravi Shankar Prasad will lead the delegation to the Middle East, a region pivotal to India’s strategic interests. Sanjay Kumar Jha, JDU’s national working president and a Rajya Sabha member, will guide the multi-party delegation to Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia, focusing on strengthening cooperation with these Asian countries.
Regional Focus and Political Representation
Baijayant Panda, BJP’s national vice president and former Odisha MP, will head the delegation to Western Europe, while Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of DMK will visit Russia and Spain, emphasizing India’s ties with these important partners. Supriya Sule, NCP’s working president and a parliamentarian from Maharashtra, will represent India in South Africa and Egypt, expanding outreach to Africa.
Shrikant Eknath Shinde, an MP from Maharashtra and son of the state’s Deputy Chief Minister, is set to represent India in the UAE and other parts of Africa, regions of growing diplomatic and economic importance.
This coordinated diplomatic mission signals India’s commitment to rallying global support against terrorism, reinforcing its position as a responsible global actor determined to combat terror networks effectively.
