Lok Sabha has been attacked once again on the 22nd death anniversary of 2001 Parliamentary Attack. In a shocking turn of events, two intruders managed to breach the heavily guarded premises and entered the chamber through the visitor’s gallery. They unleashed canisters emitting a yellow-coloured smoke, sending shockwaves throughout the nation. This alarming incident has raised grave concerns not only about the immediate safety of the parliament but also about the efficacy of the security protocols within the Parliament premises, especially on a day that holds deep historical significance.
Concerns Over the Situation:
On this day of remembrance, two men entered the Lok Sabha chamber and opened canisters emitting yellow-coloured smoke. The incident raised alarm and immediate questions about the safety and the security protocols within the Parliament premises.
As the Lok Sabha descended into chaos, Congress leader, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, reported that the intruders were apprehended by Members of Parliament (MPs) and security personnel. The House was adjourned until 2 pm in light of the security breach.
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram expressed grave concerns that the yellow smoke emitted from the canisters could have been poisonous. He highlighted the audacity of the intruders, describing how they ran towards the Speaker’s chair, shouting slogans “Tana Shahi Nahi Chalegi“. The incident was deemed a serious breach of security, especially on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack.
Security Lapse:
This security breach occurred on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament attack, raising questions about the lapses in security despite guards being present in the visitors’ gallery. The Lok Sabha chamber was suspended, and proceedings were halted as the intruders were overpowered by Lok Sabha MPs and security staff.
Outside Parliament, two more individuals, a man and a woman, were detained with coloured smoke canisters that exploded and emitted red and yellow smoke. The two men who entered the Lok Sabha have been taken into custody for interrogation by Parliament security forces.
In response to the incident, Parliament security cordoned off the entire gallery, the Lok Sabha chamber, and the surrounding areas. The Lok Sabha session remained adjourned until 2 pm as security personnel investigated the breach.
This shocking incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for stringent security measures to protect the sanctity of India’s Parliament. It also raises questions about how such breaches could occur on a day of historical significance when the nation remembers the sacrifices made during the 2001 Parliament attack.
