India’s dynamic men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, clinched a spot in the final of the Thailand Open badminton tournament after a commanding victory over Lu Ming-Che and Tang Kai-Wei of Chinese Taipei. The match, held in Bangkok on May 18, saw the Indian duo dominate their opponents in straight games, sealing their victory in just 35 minutes.
Rankireddy and Shetty, who are reigning Asian Games gold medallists, displayed their prowess on the court with a convincing 21-11 21-12 win in the semifinal match of the Super 500 tournament. As the top seeds in the competition, the world number three Indian pair showcased their exceptional skill and teamwork to secure their place in the final.
In the upcoming final on May 19, Rankireddy and Shetty will face stiff competition from the Chinese duo of Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi, who emerged victorious in the other semifinal against Kim Gi Jung and Kim Sa Rang of South Korea.
Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles category, the fourth-seeded Indian pair comprising Tanisha Carsto and Ashwini Ponnappa are set to take on the top seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai of Thailand in the semifinals later on May 18. Carsto and Ponnappa advanced to the semifinals after a hard-fought victory against the South Korean duo of Lee Yu Lim and Shen Seung Chan in the quarterfinals on May 17.
With their stellar performances, both Indian doubles pairs aim to make a mark in the Thailand Open and bring glory to the nation on the badminton court.
