  • Celebrities including Armaan Malik and Harbhajan Singh criticised the song Hashtags

The recently released song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from the upcoming film KD: The Devil has sparked controversy soon after its release. Featuring actor Sanjay Dutt and dancer-actress Nora Fatehi, the track faced strong criticism on social media for its allegedly vulgar lyrics and suggestive visuals. As the backlash intensified, the video was eventually removed from YouTube, where viewers attempting to watch it began seeing a message indicating that the video had been made private.
The song had been launched as part of the promotional campaign for the film. However, it quickly became one of the most discussed topics online after many viewers raised objections to what they described as double-meaning lyrics and provocative dance choreography. Critics argued that such content was inappropriate for mainstream cinema that reaches a large and diverse audience.

Social media criticism intensifies

Soon after the song was released, social media platforms were flooded with reactions from users criticising its lyrics and choreography. Many viewers said that the visuals and expressions in the song crossed the boundaries of acceptable entertainment.
The controversy escalated when the All India Cine Workers Association raised objections to the track. The association wrote to Central Board of Film Certification chairman Prasoon Joshi requesting action against the song. According to the association, songs with explicit visuals and double-meaning lyrics can damage the reputation of Indian cinema and send the wrong message to audiences.

Celebrities express concern

Singer Armaan Malik also reacted strongly to the controversy. Posting on social media, he described the song as an example of declining standards in songwriting. His comments quickly gained attention online and sparked debates about the quality of lyrics in contemporary film music.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh also criticised the track. He questioned the need for such content in entertainment and expressed concern that vulgar visuals could negatively influence younger audiences. Many viewers specifically highlighted the dance choreography performed by Nora Fatehi, claiming that some of the sequences appeared overly suggestive.

Video taken down from YouTube

As criticism continued to grow, the makers removed the video from YouTube. When users now attempt to access the link, they are shown a message indicating that the video is unavailable because it has been set to private. The removal of the video suggests that the production team decided to take immediate action in response to the backlash.
Reports also indicated that Nora Fatehi removed the promotional clip of the song from her Instagram account after the controversy intensified. Despite the widespread discussion, there has been no official statement from the producers of the film or the actors explaining the decision to remove the song.

Debate on creative freedom and censorship

The controversy has once again sparked a broader debate about the limits of creative freedom in the entertainment industry. While some argue that filmmakers should have the freedom to experiment with bold themes, others believe that filmmakers must maintain certain cultural and social responsibilities when creating content for mass audiences.
The song was intended as an energetic item number featuring Nora Fatehi performing in a traditional ghagra-choli costume alongside Sanjay Dutt. One particular hook step involving the dupatta quickly became a talking point online. However, appreciation soon turned into criticism as viewers began questioning the lyrics and choreography.
Whether the song will return in a modified version or remain removed from streaming platforms remains uncertain. For now, the controversy has brought renewed attention to discussions about censorship, artistic responsibility and evolving entertainment standards in Indian cinema.
