Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a chilling warning about the safety of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, following multiple assassination attempts against him. While praising Donald Trump as an experienced and intelligent politician, Vladimir Putin expressed concern over the threats to his life, citing two recent incidents in which Donald Trump had been targeted.
Speaking to reporters in Kazakhstan after a summit, Vladimir Putin remarked that he had been deeply shocked by the way the U.S. election campaign had unfolded, particularly the violent methods used against Donald Trump by his opponents. He pointed to the “absolutely uncivilized” tactics employed, including assassination attempts. “By the way, in my opinion, he is not safe now,” Vladimir Putin said. He recalled that Donald Trump had been wounded in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in July and that in another incident in September, a man was charged with attempted assassination after allegedly positioning himself with a rifle at one of Donald Trump’s golf courses in Florida.
Vladimir Putin further emphasized the gravity of the situation, adding that he believed Donald Trump was intelligent but hoped he was cautious and aware of the dangers surrounding him. “Unfortunately, in the history of the United States, various incidents have happened,” Vladimir Putin said. “I think he is intelligent and I hope he’s cautious and understands this.”
In addition to expressing concern over the physical threats to Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin also condemned the attacks on Donald Trump’s family during the election campaign. The Russian president criticized the U.S. political environment, saying he was appalled by the way Donald Trump’s children were targeted by political opponents. He called such actions “revolting” and noted that even in Russia, not even “bandits” would stoop to such methods.
Shifting to geopolitical matters, Vladimir Putin also addressed the U.S. administration’s decision to escalate the war in Ukraine by allowing Ukraine to strike Russia with Western-supplied missiles. He speculated that this decision might either be an effort to help Donald Trump by providing him with something to reverse or a tactic to make his relationship with Russia more complicated.
Despite the escalating tensions, Vladimir Putin said he was optimistic that Donald Trump would find a way to handle these challenges, adding that Moscow remained ready for dialogue. The comments reflect Vladimir Putin’s continued attention to the complex dynamics between the U.S. and Russia, particularly with Donald Trump now preparing to assume the presidency.
