Three Russian missiles struck Chernigiv on Wednesday, causing widespread devastation and chaos. Rescue operations were underway as emergency responders tirelessly worked to extract survivors and attend to the wounded amidst the rubble.
The official death toll climbed to 18 by Thursday morning, with 77 individuals, including four children, reported injured, according to Ukraine’s emergency services department.
President Volodymyr Zelensky issued fervent appeals for assistance from Western allies, urging for bolstered defenses to safeguard Ukrainian skies against further aggression. Concurrently, the US House of Representatives announced plans to vote on a substantial military aid package worth $61 billion for Kyiv, a move welcomed by President Joe Biden as a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine.

President Zelensky squarely blamed Russia for the attack while also urging Western nations to step up efforts in fortifying Ukraine’s defenses. Addressing the European Council, Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for enhanced air defense systems, drawing parallels to recent conflicts in the Middle East.
