  • Rinku Singh likely to captain KKR for IPL 2025.
  • KKR releases Shreyas Iyer, searches for new leadership.

As the countdown to IPL 2025 begins, the question on every fan’s mind is: Who will captain Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming season? Following a stellar performance that helped KKR lift the IPL 2024 trophy, Shreyas Iyer, who led the team to victory, will not be a part of the franchise in IPL 2025. The franchise made the decision to release Shreyas Iyer before the mega auction, confirming that KKR would be looking for a new captain to lead them in the next season.

In the weeks leading up to the mega auction, several names were being floated as potential candidates for the KKR captaincy. Initially, explosive batsman Rinku Singh was reported to be the frontrunner for the captaincy role. However, media reports soon speculated that veteran cricketer Ajinkya Rahane could take the reins. Rahane’s leadership qualities and experience made him a strong contender. Additionally, Venkatesh Iyer, who had garnered attention for his impressive performance in the auctions, was also being considered for the captaincy after KKR bought him for a massive sum of 23.75 crores INR.

However, the latest reports suggest that Rinku Singh, the player who won the game for KKR by hitting five consecutive sixes in the final over to clinch a dramatic victory, is now the leading contender to take over as the team’s captain in IPL 2025. According to media sources, Singh is set to be named as the captain, stepping into Shreyas Iyer’s shoes for the upcoming season. While KKR has not yet made an official announcement regarding the captaincy, it is widely expected that Singh will be given the role.

This year, several other IPL teams have yet to announce their captain for IPL 2025, with franchises like Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, and Delhi Capitals among those who are yet to make an official decision. Punjab Kings’ former captain Shikhar Dhawan has already retired, further complicating the leadership selection for the team. As for KKR, fans and cricket enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting the formal confirmation of Rinku Singh’s appointment as the team’s new captain, hoping he can lead the franchise to further success in the upcoming season.
