In response to reports of violence during the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Manipur on April 19, the Election Commission has initiated re-polling at 11 polling stations in the inner-Manipur Parliamentary constituency.
Re-polling is underway at 11 polling stations within the inner-Manipur Parliamentary constituency in Manipur, following incidents of violence reported during the initial phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The Election Commission ordered the re-polling in response to these disturbances.
On April 19, miscreants allegedly engaged in violence, including firing and destruction of electronic voting machines (EVMs), at several polling stations in Manipur. One civilian was reportedly injured during the incidents, with clashes erupting at a polling booth in Moirangkampu Sajeb Awang Leikai, Imphal.
The affected constituency, encompassing all 32 assembly segments of inner Manipur and 15 segments of outer Manipur (ST), participated in the Lok Sabha elections. However, voting for the remaining 13 segments of Outer Manipur is scheduled for the second phase on April 26.
The Election Commission’s decision to conduct re-polling aims to ensure the integrity and fairness of the electoral process in Manipur amid concerns over security and voter safety.
