Afghanistan showcased one of their most impressive T20 performances by defeating New Zealand by a massive 84-run margin in a Group C match of the T20 World Cup 2024. Led by Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi’s exceptional bowling, Afghanistan bowled out New Zealand for just 75 runs, successfully defending their total of 160. Here are the key highlights of the match:

  1. Exceptional Bowling: Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi each took four wickets, both ending with figures of 4/17.
  2. New Zealand’s Struggle: New Zealand was bowled out for 75 runs, with only two batsmen, Glen Phillips (18) and Matt Henry (12), reaching double figures.
  3. Afghanistan’s Total: Afghanistan set a target of 160 runs, which proved to be a challenging score on the Providence Stadium pitch.
  4. Top Performers: The opening pair of Gurbaz and Ibrahim played crucial roles, achieving back-to-back century partnerships in T20 World Cups, a first for openers.
