The World Bank Group has appointed Rakesh Mohan, former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, as a member of its Economic Advisory Panel. The announcement was made by the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP), a New Delhi-based think tank.
Rakesh Mohan currently holds the position of President Emeritus and Distinguished Fellow at CSEP, in addition to serving as a part-time member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council.
Lord Nicholas Stern, the IG Patel Professor of Economics and Government at the London School of Economics, will chair the World Bank panel, with Indermit Gill, the Chief Economist of the World Bank Group, serving as co-chair.
The panel, as per the CSEP statement, will concentrate on strategic issues concerning the World Bank Group’s objectives, research agenda, and actions. It will also offer guidance on critical matters relating to the World Bank’s research and policy outputs. Each member of the panel will serve a two-year term.
Prior to this appointment, Rakesh Mohan held various significant roles, including serving as an Executive Director on the board of the International Monetary Fund. He has also served as Economic Affairs Secretary and Chief Economic Adviser in the Finance Ministry, as well as an Economic Adviser in the Industry Ministry.
Additionally, Rakesh Mohan has held positions such as Senior Fellow at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs, Yale University, and Professor in the Practice of International Economics and Finance at the School of Management from 2010 to 2012.
