The box office journey of Raja Shivaji continues to gather momentum as the film recorded a solid performance on its second day. After an impressive opening, the historical drama managed to sustain its grip at the ticket counters, showcasing a steady trend rather than a dramatic surge or decline.

On Day 2, the film collected ₹10.55 crore net across India, bringing its total two-day net collection to ₹21.90 crore. The gross collection has already crossed ₹26 crore, reflecting a promising start for a film rooted deeply in regional storytelling yet aiming for broader appeal.

A Stable Hold Instead of a Typical Weekend Surge

In the world of big-budget releases, Saturdays often witness a noticeable jump in collections due to increased footfall and weekend leisure viewing. However, Raja Shivaji has taken a slightly different route.

Instead of a spike, the film recorded only a minor drop of around 7 percent compared to its opening day collection of ₹11.35 crore. While this may appear unusual, it actually indicates stability. A controlled dip rather than a sharp fall suggests that the film is maintaining consistent audience interest.

This trend is often considered healthy, especially for content-driven films that rely on word of mouth rather than hype alone.

Marathi Version Drives the Film’s Success

The most striking aspect of Raja Shivaji’s performance is the overwhelming dominance of its Marathi version. Despite having significantly fewer shows, the Marathi version emerged as the clear leader in terms of both collections and occupancy.

On Day 2, the Marathi version contributed ₹7.15 crore, accounting for a major share of the total earnings. With approximately 1,980 shows, it achieved an impressive occupancy rate of 57 percent.

This high occupancy indicates strong audience engagement, particularly in Maharashtra, where the story of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj holds deep cultural and emotional significance.

Over the first two days, the Marathi version alone has contributed ₹15.15 crore, reinforcing its position as the backbone of the film’s box office success.

Hindi Version Struggles Despite Wider Release

In contrast, the Hindi version of Raja Shivaji has not performed at the same level. Despite a much wider release with over 4,000 shows, it collected ₹3.40 crore on Day 2 with an occupancy of just 16 percent.

The disparity between the Marathi and Hindi versions highlights a key trend: regional authenticity is driving audience interest more than pan-India appeal in this case.

Over two days, the Hindi version has contributed ₹6.75 crore, which is respectable but significantly lower than the Marathi earnings.

This contrast also underscores the importance of cultural connection in determining box office performance.

Rising Ticket Sales Signal Growing Interest

An interesting trend emerges when looking at ticket sales data. Despite a slight drop in net collections, the number of tickets sold actually increased on Day 2.

The film recorded 283010 ticket sales on its second day, compared to 274790 on the opening day. Including pre-sales, the total ticket count on digital platforms has reached approximately 7.75 lakh.

This increase in footfall suggests that more people are watching the film, even though overall revenue dipped slightly. Such a pattern often occurs due to variations in ticket pricing, with more viewers opting for lower-priced shows.

It also indicates that the film is expanding its reach and attracting a broader audience as the weekend progresses.

Performance in Multiplex Chains

In major national multiplex chains such as PVR Cinemas, INOX, and Cinepolis, Raja Shivaji recorded a combined gross collection of ₹1.90 crore on Day 2.

Among these, PVR led with ₹76 lakh, followed closely by INOX at ₹72 lakh, while Cinepolis contributed ₹41.50 lakh.

The occupancy in these chains ranged between 10 percent and 16 percent, reflecting the relatively slower performance of the Hindi version in urban markets.

However, the sale of around 58600 tickets in multiplexes indicates that the film is still drawing steady footfall in metropolitan areas.

Regional Strength vs National Reach

One of the defining characteristics of Raja Shivaji’s box office performance is the clear divide between regional and national markets.

In Maharashtra and surrounding regions, the film is performing exceptionally well due to strong cultural resonance. The high occupancy levels and consistent collections reflect a loyal audience base.

On the other hand, in non-Marathi markets, the film is yet to achieve similar traction. The Hindi version’s moderate performance suggests that it may rely on word of mouth and weekend growth to improve its standing.

This dynamic highlights the evolving nature of Indian cinema, where regional films can achieve significant success without relying solely on pan-India appeal.

Word of Mouth Driving Momentum

The steady performance of Raja Shivaji suggests that word of mouth is playing a crucial role in sustaining its box office run.

Films with strong storytelling and emotional connection often build momentum gradually rather than relying on opening weekend hype.

The increase in ticket sales despite a slight dip in collections indicates that audience interest is growing organically.

If this trend continues, the film could see improved performance in the coming days.

Sunday Expectations and Opening Weekend Outlook

With a solid foundation established over the first two days, all eyes are now on Sunday. Traditionally, Sunday is the highest-grossing day of the opening weekend, and Raja Shivaji is expected to benefit from increased footfall.

If the Marathi version maintains its high occupancy and the Hindi version sees even a modest boost, the film could achieve a strong opening weekend total.

A successful Sunday performance would further strengthen the film’s position and set the stage for a steady weekday run.

Factors Influencing Future Performance

Several factors will determine how Raja Shivaji performs in the coming weeks:

  • Continued dominance of the Marathi version
  • Growth in the Hindi market through positive word of mouth
  • Stability in weekday collections
  • Competition from new releases

The film’s ability to maintain audience interest beyond the opening weekend will be crucial for its long-term success.

Broader Impact on Regional Cinema

The performance of Raja Shivaji also reflects a larger trend in the Indian film industry. Regional cinema is gaining prominence and demonstrating its ability to deliver strong box office results.

Films rooted in local culture and history are resonating with audiences, often outperforming larger productions in specific markets.

This shift highlights the importance of storytelling that connects with audiences on a deeper level.

Conclusion

Raja Shivaji has delivered a commendable performance in its first two days, crossing ₹21 crore net and establishing a strong foothold at the box office.

The film’s success is driven primarily by its Marathi version, which continues to dominate with high occupancy and consistent collections. While the Hindi version faces challenges, there is potential for growth as word of mouth spreads.

With a promising start and steady momentum, Raja Shivaji is well-positioned for a successful opening weekend and a sustained run in the days ahead.
