Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to launch the Congress party’s campaign for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections with two significant public rallies on September 4, 2024. These rallies, taking place in Ramban and Anantnag districts, mark the beginning of Congress’ electoral efforts after a decade-long hiatus in the region. The rallies are crucial for Congress as it gears up for the first phase of the assembly polls, scheduled to take place in multiple phases later this month.

  • The National Conference will contest 51 seats, while Congress will contest 32 seats, with friendly contests on five seats and reserved seats for CPI(M) and the Panthers Party.
  • Congress aims to enhance its public outreach and improve its electoral prospects with these rallies.
