Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recounted his experience of being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate during an election rally in Lucknow. Rahul Gandhi highlighted his interrogation in the National Herald case, where he spent 55 hours under scrutiny by the CBI and ED over alleged financial irregularities related to the newspaper.
Addressing the crowd, Rahul Gandhi emphasized his voluntary appearance before the ED, stating, “You are thinking that you had called me here, but you are misunderstanding. I have come here myself… I have come to see who is killing the democracy of India.”
Reflecting on his time during questioning, Rahul Gandhi remarked on seeing a lockup and contemplating his great-grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru’s imprisonment, expressing a willingness to endure similar hardships.
In 2022, both Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were questioned for several days in the National Herald case and are presently out on bail.
Established by Jawaharlal Nehru, the National Herald case accuses the Gandhis of misappropriating funds to acquire properties owned by the newspaper’s publishers, The Associated Journals Limited (AJL), through the organization Young Indian (YI).
Acknowledging past errors, Rahul Gandhi asserted the need for the Congress party to adapt and evolve politically in the future.
Directing criticism at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi labeled him a monarch and asserted that the BJP would secure less than 180 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
