Qatar has announced the successful outcome of its mediation efforts in securing the release of an Austrian detainee in Afghanistan. The individual has been safely transported to Doha, marking a positive resolution to the delicate situation.
Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar, conveyed his appreciation to the caretaker government of Afghanistan for their cooperation throughout the process. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Al Khulaifi emphasized the strength of Qatar’s bilateral relations with Austria and expressed satisfaction with the successful release of the Austrian national.
Furthermore, the State Minister reiterated Qatar’s commitment to playing a constructive role in conflict resolution through dialogue and peaceful means. Emphasizing the importance of promoting peace and stability both regionally and globally, the Qatari leader affirmed its continued dedication to mediation efforts aimed at fostering peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
Meanwhile, it is pertinent to note that, Qatar has been playing a key-role in bringing varying factions of the Israel-Hamas war on a negotiating tale. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani says his country’s mediation efforts will continue despite an agreement between Israel and Hamas appearing unlikely at the moment as Israel prepares to mount an invasion of Rafah in southern Gaza.
“The pattern in the last few days is not really very promising but … we will always remain optimistic and will always remain pushing,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
