Allu Arjun’s much-awaited Pushpa 2: The Rule, directed by Sukumar, has achieved a remarkable milestone at the box office, setting new records globally on its opening day. The film, which released on December 5, made an astounding Rs 175.1 crore nett in India, making it the biggest opener of all time in the country. The movie’s success wasn’t limited to India alone; when combined with overseas collections, Pushpa 2 grossed around Rs 200 crore on Day 1, surpassing expectations and establishing a new benchmark in Indian cinema.
With its massive worldwide release on over 10,000 screens, the film took the box office by storm, even eclipsing the record set by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which had previously held the title for the biggest Hindi opener. While the official numbers are still awaited, early estimates indicate that Pushpa 2 has outperformed Jawan by grossing more in its Hindi version. According to reports, the Hindi version alone earned Rs 67 crore nett, which is higher than Jawan’s Rs 64 crore nett on its opening day.
On its opening day, Pushpa 2 made an impressive Rs 175.1 crore nett in India, including the paid premiere shows held on December 4. The film saw strong numbers from its special premiere shows in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Bengaluru, where it earned an additional Rs 10.1 crore nett. The Telugu version of the film dominated, contributing a massive Rs 85 crore nett on Day 1, while the Tamil and Malayalam versions added Rs 7 crore and Rs 5 crore, respectively.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala confirmed the massive success of Pushpa 2, calling it the all-time Day 1 opener in India. According to initial estimates, the film may have even surpassed SS Rajamouli’s epic RRR, which had previously set a record for the highest Day 1 collection in India at Rs 223 crore, with Pushpa 2 potentially crossing that mark. Official numbers are expected soon from the production house to provide more clarity on the film’s total collection on its first day.
Pushpa 2 features Allu Arjun in the lead role, reprising his character Pushpa Raj, alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil. The film also stars Anasuya Bharadwaj, Sunil, Jagapathi Babu, Rao Ramesh, and Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari in key roles. Sreeleela makes a special cameo appearance. Directed by Sukumar, the film has already broken numerous records and is set for a massive run at the box office in the coming weeks.
