Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his best wishes to cricketer Mohammad Shami for a swift recovery following the seamer’s announcement of undergoing heel surgery on Monday night.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his hopes for Shami’s quick recuperation, highlighting his confidence in Shami’s resilience and determination.
“Wishing you a speedy recovery and good health, @MdShami11! I’m confident you’ll overcome this injury with the courage that is so integral to you,” PM Modi said.
Further, in response to the Prime Minister’s thoughtful message, Shami expressed his gratitude, describing the personal note from Modi as a wonderful surprise. He thanked Modi for his kindness and support during this challenging time, promising to continue working hard towards his recovery.
“It was such a wonderful surprise to receive a personal note from Prime Minister Narendra Modi sir wishing me a speedy recovery. His kindness and thoughtfulness truly mean a lot to me. Thank you so much Modi sir ,for your well wishes and support during this time. I will continue to work hard towards my recovery,Thank you all for your continued wish ,love and support,” Shami said.
It is pertinent to note that the 33-year-old seamer underwent surgery for his right Achilles tendon in London, raising doubts about his availability for upcoming cricket events.
He had last played during the ODI World Cup in November 2023. Despite India’s loss to Australia in the final, Shami emerged as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with an impressive tally of 24 wickets from seven matches.
However, now, with the IPL season on the horizon, Shami’s absence could be a significant blow to the Gujarat Titans, his IPL franchise, where he played a crucial role in their runner-up finish in IPL 2023.
Furthermore, apart from his absence from IPL Season, Shami’s recovery timeline casts doubts on his participation in the T20 World Cup scheduled to commence in June, adding further uncertainty to India’s bowling lineup.
