Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to embark on a visit to Dubai, UAE, from November 30 to December 1, 2023, at the invitation of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. The purpose of the visit is to participate in the World Climate Action Summit, a significant event that is part of the 28th Conference of Parties (COP-28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
COP-28, hosted by the UAE, is scheduled from November 28 to December 12, 2023, and brings together global leaders and stakeholders to address the pressing issue of climate change. It serves as a platform for collective action and discussions on climate-related challenges.
The World Climate Action Summit, a key component of COP-28, is dedicated to the high-level segment of the conference and will see participation from leaders worldwide. During this summit, Prime Minister Modi will engage in discussions on climate action, emphasizing India’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges.
It is pertinrnt to note that India has made substantial commitments to climate action. During COP-26 in Glasgow, Prime Minister Modi announced India’s “Panchamrit,” comprising five specific targets as India’s unprecedented contribution to climate action. Additionally, he introduced the “Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE),” further highlighting India’s dedication to sustainability and environmental protection.
India’s role in climate action was also prominent during its G20 Presidency, with climate issues being a top priority. The New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration from the G20 Presidency outlined several concrete steps toward climate action and sustainable development.

Meanwhile, PM Modi, ahead of his visit to Dubai, UAE, for the World Climate Action Summit of COP-28, expressed his anticipation and enthusiasm for the significant event. He highlighted the importance of the summit being held under the Presidency of the UAE, a crucial partner for India in the realm of climate action.
In his statement, Prime Minister Modi underscored India’s historical commitment to climate action while pursuing social and economic development. He emphasized that climate issues have been a top priority, even during India’s G20 Presidency. The New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration from that period outlined several concrete steps toward climate action and sustainable development.
PM Modi further also emphasized the importance of equity, climate justice, and common but differentiated responsibilities, especially for the developing world. He stressed that adequate climate financing and technology transfer are crucial to support the efforts of developing nations and enable them to achieve sustainable development.
