Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his 395th birth anniversary, honoring his legacy of courage, leadership, and commitment to Swarajya. Acknowledging the Maratha warrior king’s impact on Indian history, Narendra Damodardas Modi emphasized that his visionary leadership continues to inspire the nation in building a self-reliant and prosperous India.

“I pay homage to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his Jayanti. His valor and visionary leadership laid the foundation for Swarajya, inspiring generations to uphold the values of courage and justice. He inspires us in building a strong, self-reliant, and prosperous India,” Narendra Damodardas Modi wrote in his message.

Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Anilchandra Shah also paid his respects, highlighting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s role in establishing Hindavi Swarajya and protecting India’s cultural and religious identity against external forces. He described Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as a true nation builder who upheld the principles of duty, ethics, and justice. “The life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ji, who proclaimed ‘Hindavi Swarajya,’ was a confluence of ethics, duty, and piety. He dedicated his life to protecting Sanatan self-respect by fighting against fundamentalist invaders. He will always be remembered as a nation builder,” Amit Anilchandra Shah stated.

Union Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s unwavering commitment to justice and governance. He remarked that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy of courage and dedication to public welfare remains a guiding force for future generations. “I bow to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his Jayanti. His unmatched courage, commitment to justice, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people continue to inspire us. His legacy of selfless service, integrity, and resilience will pave the way for prosperity and peace for future generations,” Rajnath Singh stated.

Born on February 19, 1630, at Shivneri Fort in present-day Pune, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was one of India’s greatest warriors and the founder of the Maratha Empire. A brilliant military strategist and administrator, he successfully resisted Mughal expansion in western India and championed an inclusive governance model. His rule was marked by military innovations, a strong naval presence, and administrative reforms that strengthened regional autonomy and protected local populations.

In 1674, after years of relentless battles against the Mughal Empire and other adversaries, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj formally established the Maratha Empire, symbolizing indigenous self-rule. His governance model included a disciplined military, an efficient taxation system, and policies ensuring justice and welfare for all communities under his rule. His legacy extends beyond his military conquests, as he is remembered for his emphasis on good governance, religious tolerance, and the empowerment of local self-government structures.

The celebration of Shivaji Jayanti serves as a tribute to his extraordinary contributions to Indian history. Across Maharashtra and other parts of India, the day is observed with grand processions, cultural events, and discussions on his remarkable leadership. His ideals of self-rule, resilience, and justice continue to resonate, inspiring modern governance and leadership in India.
