Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced the second leg of his Gulf tour with a visit to Qatar, following the successful completion of his trip to the UAE. Upon his arrival in Doha, Prime Minister Modi was warmly received by Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
This marks Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to Qatar, with his first visit taking place in June 2016. A significant diplomatic encounter unfolded shortly after his arrival, as he held talks with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to discuss bilateral ties.
The Ministry of External Affairs elaborated on the details of the meeting, highlighting discussions aimed at expanding cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, energy, and finance.
“Furthering India-Qatar partnership! PM @narendramodi held a fruitful meeting with HH @MBA_AlThani_, PM & FM of Qatar in Doha. Discussions covered expanding bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade & investment, energy, finance among others,” the MEA said.
Moreover, discussion over situation in West Asia also floated during the talks.
“They also discussed recent regional developments in West Asia and emphasized the importance of upholding peace and stability in the region and beyond,” the MEA added.
Meanwhile, the Qatari Prime Minister’s office too released a statement on the high-level meet that unfolded between the two leaders. The office informed, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Modi, expressing eagerness to enhance cooperation between the two countries and build upon decades of partnership across various fields.
“I welcome the Prime Minister of the friendly Republic of India, Mr. @narendramodi, to the State of Qatar. We look forward to enhancing cooperation between our two friendly countries and working together to build on the outcome of decades of partnership in various fields,” it said.
Prime Minister Modi’s itinerary in Qatar also includes several other diplomatic engagements, including a dinner hosted in his honor by Qatar’s Prime Minister. On February 15, he is scheduled to meet with the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues.
