United States President Joe Biden reaffirmed America’s commitment to robustly defending Ukraine against Russia’s invasion during the NATO summit held in Washington on Tuesday. Addressing NATO member states, President Joe Biden emphasized the severity of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intentions, stating that Putin seeks nothing short of Ukraine’s complete subjugation and eradication.
“(Vladimir) Putin wants nothing less, nothing less, than Ukraine’s total subjugation… and to wipe Ukraine off the map,” President Joe Biden asserted during his address, as reported by Reuters. He further expressed confidence in Ukraine’s ability to resist Putin’s aggression, declaring, “Ukraine can and will stop Putin.”
The summit, held against the backdrop of historic NATO walls, where the treaty establishing the alliance was signed, underscored President Joe Biden’s assurance of NATO’s strength. “Today, NATO is stronger than it’s ever been in its history,” President Joe Biden remarked, according to Reuters.
The president’s remarks come amid ongoing scrutiny over his fitness for office, with recent concerns raised within Democratic circles and among campaign donors regarding his performance. However, during the summit, President Joe Biden delivered his statements confidently, largely avoiding the verbal challenges observed during past debates and appearances.
The NATO summit in Washington served as a platform for President Joe Biden to reaffirm the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine and to galvanize international solidarity against Russian aggression.
