During an iftar gathering with ambassadors in Ankara, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to supporting Gaza and criticized Israel’s actions, calling them reckless and tantamount to war crimes.
President Erdogan expressed Turkey’s readiness to assume responsibility as a guarantor for preventing the recurrence of massacres in Gaza and revitalizing the region. He emphasized the necessity of finding a just resolution to the Palestinian issue for lasting peace and stability in the region and the world.
“We stand ready to assume responsibility as a guarantor for the prevention of the recurrence of the massacres in Gaza and for the revival of the region. Everyone is aware of the fact that lasting peace and stability is not possible in our region or the world unless a just resolution is found to the Palestinian issue,” he said.
Highlighting the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, Erdogan stated that over 32,000 Palestinians had been martyred and 73,000 injured during Israeli attacks over the past five months. He condemned Israel’s disregard for the International Court of Justice’s injunction on protecting civilians and accused Israel of continuing its war crimes unabated.
Erdogan criticized the hesitant policies of countries providing unconditional military and diplomatic support to Israel, stating that such actions only embolden Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and his allies. He called for increased pressure on Israel to lift the blockade and increase truck crossings from the Rafah Border to Gaza.
Amidst the ongoing crisis, Erdogan noted Turkey’s efforts in delivering over 40 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza via Egypt, with additional aid planned throughout Ramadan. He emphasized the importance of international support in addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people.
