Changes in the Scheme (2024)

Over the years, the PMGDISHA scheme has evolved to meet the evolving needs of rural communities. As of 2024, the scheme has made remarkable progress, with more than 6.62 crore candidates enrolled and 5.68 crore trained. These numbers reflect the growing momentum and impact of the initiative in enhancing digital literacy and connectivity across the country.

About the Scheme

Approved by the Union Cabinet in February 2017, PMGDISHA aims to provide digital literacy training to 6 crore rural households, targeting one person per household. Under the scheme, participants receive comprehensive training on various aspects of digital literacy, including operating computers, utilizing digital devices such as tablets and smartphones, sending emails, browsing the internet, accessing government services, and conducting cashless transactions.

Benefits of the Scheme

1. Digital Empowerment : PMGDISHA empowers rural citizens with essential digital skills, enabling them to participate actively in the digital economy and access various online services. By equipping individuals with digital literacy, the scheme enhances their employability and opens doors to new opportunities in the digital domain.

2. Skill Development : The scheme fosters skill development among rural communities, creating a pool of digitally literate individuals capable of leveraging technology for personal and professional growth. This not only enhances individual capacities but also contributes to the overall socio-economic development of rural areas.

3. Access to Information : Through training on internet usage and online information search, PMGDISHA facilitates access to a wealth of knowledge and resources available on the internet. This empowers rural citizens to stay informed, learn new skills, and stay connected with the global community.

4. Financial Inclusion : With a focus on cashless transactions, PMGDISHA promotes financial inclusion by encouraging rural populations to adopt digital payment methods. By facilitating access to digital financial services, the scheme contributes to reducing the reliance on cash transactions and promotes a more inclusive and efficient financial ecosystem.
