In a startling move to apprehend nursing officer accused of sexual assault, police drove a car into the emergency ward of AIIMS Rishikesh on Tuesday (May 21). The incident, captured in a viral video, occurred as authorities sought to arrest the officer accused of sexually harassing a woman doctor.
The 26-second clip depicts a scene reminiscent of an action movie, as a police SUV maneuvers through the crowded emergency ward. Patients on beds line both sides of the ward, while security officials clear a path for the vehicle, displacing stretchers carrying patients. Inside the car, several police officers are visible.
According to police reports, the accused nursing officer, Satish Kumar, allegedly sexually harassed a woman doctor within an operation theatre at the prestigious health facility. Kumar also purportedly sent an obscene SMS to the doctor, stated Rishikesh police officer Shankar Singh Bisht.
The incident incited fury among the hospital’s medical staff, prompting doctors to stage a strike and protest outside the dean’s office. They demanded the immediate dismissal of the offender. Subsequently, the doctors lodged a complaint with the police.
Responding to the protests, law enforcement officers decided to drive into the hospital premises to apprehend Satish Kumar. In another video, police officers are seen surrounded by protesting doctors as they escort the accused into the vehicle.
The doctors, chanting slogans, reiterated their demand for Kumar’s immediate dismissal, asserting that his suspension was insufficient given the gravity of the offence. Despite the strike by doctors since Tuesday, emergency services remain operational at AIIMS Rishikesh.
