A 29-year-old man convicted in a POCSO case managed to escape from the court premises in Alwar, Rajasthan, immediately after the verdict was delivered.
Identified as Manish, he fled the courtroom upon receiving a three-year jail sentence.
Manish had been charged under IPC sections 354, 354D, 452, 506, and POCSO section 7/8, leading to his arrest and subsequent trial in an Alwar court. Following the presentation of evidence, the court sentenced him to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. However, he capitalized on the crowded courtroom to abscond before authorities could apprehend him.
Upon discovery of his escape, the court’s reader promptly alerted the police.
Senior police officials highlighted the lack of jail guards or police presence for such offenders during court proceedings. They explained that individuals like Manish typically appear in court accompanied by their lawyers, who may become preoccupied with other matters after the verdict is announced. Taking advantage of the situation, Manish exploited the crowded premises to evade custody.
Efforts to locate and apprehend Manish are ongoing, with police conducting a thorough search and monitoring CCTV footage in and around the court premises. Authorities remain optimistic about his imminent arrest.
