Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Delhi’s Palam Airport on Friday after concluding his significant two-nation visit to France and the United States. The visit, marked by high-level diplomatic engagements, strategic discussions, and economic collaborations, underscored India’s growing global stature and the strengthening of bilateral ties with two key international partners.
During his stay in France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in several high-profile events, including the AI Action Summit, which brought together world leaders and global technology CEOs. As a co-chair of the summit, he emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence in shaping the future and fostering international cooperation in technological advancements. The visit to France also included crucial discussions on commerce, energy, and cultural linkages, further cementing the long-standing Indo-French relationship.
One of the highlights of Narendra Modi’s France visit was his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Marseille. The two leaders visited the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project, a multinational research and engineering initiative, in which India is a key partner. They also jointly inaugurated the Indian Consulate in Marseille, signifying the growing diplomatic footprint of India in France. Additionally, PM Modi paid tributes to Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World Wars I and II at the Mazargues War Cemetery. Before PM Narendra Modi’s departure for the United States, President Macron personally saw him off at Marseille Airport, reflecting the warmth and depth of the Indo-French relationship.
Following his engagements in France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proceeded to the United States, where he met with President Donald Trump at the White House. This meeting marked the first official interaction between the two leaders since Trump assumed office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025. Their discussions, which lasted four hours, covered a wide array of issues, including strategic and security cooperation, defense collaborations, trade, economic engagements, technology partnerships, energy security, and regional as well as global challenges.
President Trump, welcoming PM Narendra Modi, expressed his admiration for the enduring partnership between India and the US, stating that both nations share “great unity and great friendship.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties and working together to address global challenges. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in response, conveyed his delight at seeing President Trump back at the White House for a second term and reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening the India-US strategic partnership. He also highlighted his own third consecutive term as Prime Minister of India, a rare political milestone achieved after six decades in Indian history.
The visit to the US also featured interactions with prominent personalities, including newly confirmed Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. These discussions spanned topics ranging from artificial intelligence and electric mobility to economic collaboration and national security. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, in a press briefing, highlighted that the meetings and discussions signified the high priority both nations place on strengthening their bilateral ties.
Misri elaborated on the visit’s significance, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first world leaders invited to the US after President Trump’s re-election. The discussions at the White House, he stated, comprehensively addressed all aspects of the Indo-US relationship, from defense and security cooperation to trade, economic growth, and regional stability.
During the visit, PM Narendra Modi also underscored the importance of fostering innovation and technological advancements, aligning with India’s vision for a digitally empowered future.
