Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a significant diplomatic visit on Tuesday, aiming to enhance India’s historical ties with Brunei and deepen its Strategic Partnership with Singapore. This trip marks the first-ever bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei Darussalam, underscoring a new chapter in the relationship between the two nations.

In his departure statement, PM Narendra Modi expressed optimism about the visit, highlighting its importance in advancing India’s historical relationship with Brunei. He is scheduled to meet with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other key members of the Bruneian royal family. The discussions are anticipated to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding areas of mutual interest.

Following his visit to Brunei, PM Narendra Modi will travel to Singapore on Wednesday. During this leg of the trip, he will engage with prominent leaders, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. PM Narendra Modi’s agenda also includes meetings with Singapore’s business community, reflecting the emphasis on enhancing economic and strategic collaborations.

PM Narendra Modi’s visit comes as India and Brunei Darussalam celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations. The Prime Minister expressed his enthusiasm for discussions aimed at advancing the partnership, particularly in the realms of space and defense. The visit is set to address new and emerging areas, including advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable development, aligning with India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision.

The focus of PM Narendra Modi’s engagements will be to deepen the strategic partnership with Singapore and reinforce India’s ties with the ASEAN region. PM Narendra Modi’s trip underscores India’s commitment to fostering robust relationships in Southeast Asia, pivotal for regional stability and cooperation.

By participating in these high-level discussions, PM Narendra Modi aims to solidify bilateral ties and explore new avenues for collaboration, thereby strengthening India’s presence and influence in the region.
