Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a historic visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana today, marking a significant moment in Indian politics. His visit includes a rally in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, which will be the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited the region in 42 years. Following his visit to Doda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also campaign in Kurukshetra district in Haryana.
The rally in Doda is scheduled to be held at a local stadium, with extensive multi-tier security measures in place across the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar to ensure the event proceeds without incident. This visit is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first visit by any Prime Minister to Doda since 1982, according to Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy. The rally is expected to provide a significant boost to the BJP’s campaign efforts in the region.
The upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will see voting for eight Assembly seats in the Chenab Valley districts of Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban on September 18. The election will be conducted in three phases, with subsequent voting on September 25 and October 1, and the results to be counted on October 8. This election is the first Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir in a decade and follows the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A.
The BJP has historically been strong in the Jammu region, winning all 25 of its seats from the region in the 2014 Assembly elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Doda is anticipated to galvanize support for the party as they seek to consolidate their position ahead of the elections.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has called on residents to attend the rally in large numbers, highlighting the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state known for its agricultural significance and historical importance. The rally is scheduled for 3:45 pm at Kurukshetra’s Theme Park.
Polling in Haryana is set for October 5, with vote counting on October 8. The state is expected to see a competitive race, with the BJP aiming for a third consecutive term and the Congress, led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, striving to reclaim power after a decade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana are likely to play a crucial role in shaping the electoral landscape in these key regions.
