Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a landmark two-day visit to Kuwait, marking a significant step in strengthening India-Kuwait relations. Invited by Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, PM Modi’s visit focused on elevating bilateral ties to the level of a ‘Strategic Partnership’ and exploring avenues for deeper collaboration in key sectors.
During his visit, PM Modi engaged in wide-ranging discussions with the Emir and Kuwait’s leadership on cooperation in pharmaceuticals, IT, FinTech, infrastructure, and security. Both leaders emphasized the historical and friendly ties between India and Kuwait, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation. They formally agreed to elevate the relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership,’ signaling a new era in diplomatic and economic ties.
PM Modi’s visit was characterized by high-level engagements, including a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at the Bayan Palace. On the second day, he was warmly received by Kuwait’s Prime Minister, Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, before concluding his discussions. In a special gesture underscoring the importance of the visit, Kuwait’s Emir personally bid farewell to PM Modi at the airport as he departed for India.
The Prime Minister highlighted the contributions of the vibrant Indian community of over one million people in Kuwait and expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti leadership for ensuring their well-being. In his interactions, the Emir acknowledged the role of the Indian diaspora in Kuwait’s development and praised their contributions to the Gulf nation’s progress.
PM Modi lauded Kuwait’s Vision 2035 initiatives and congratulated the Emir for successfully hosting the GCC Summit earlier this month. He also expressed his gratitude for being invited as a ‘Guest of Honour’ at the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup, emphasizing the cultural and diplomatic significance of such gestures.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “Excellent meeting with His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. We discussed cooperation in key sectors… In line with the close ties between our nations, we have elevated our partnership to a strategic one and I am optimistic that our friendship will flourish even more in the times to come.”
This historic visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years, has laid a robust foundation for future collaboration, enhancing India’s strategic engagement with Kuwait and the broader Gulf region.
