During their conversation, the two leaders shared their thoughts on the Cricket World Cup being held in India. PM Rishi Sunak congratulated PM Modi on India’s strong performance in the tournament  and said he hoped England would have more luck during their test series in India in January.

Moving beyond cricket, the leaders delved into matters of bilateral importance, highlighting their commitment to strengthening comprehensive strategic partnerships. These partnerships span various sectors, including trade, investment, emerging technology, defense, security, and health. They also welcomed the progress made towards concluding a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement, indicating their dedication to bolstering economic ties between their nations.

Addressing the situation in West Asia, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Sunak voiced their shared concerns regarding terrorism, the deteriorating security landscape, and the unfortunate loss of civilian lives amid the Israel-Hamas war. They stressed the importance of working towards regional peace, security, and stability, in addition to continuing humanitarian assistance efforts in the conflict-affected areas.

In a tweet after the conversation, PM Modi stated, “Earlier this evening, spoke to UK PM Rishi Sunak. Discussed means to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on the situation in West Asia. We agree that there is no place for terror and violence. Death of civilians is a serious concern. Need to work towards regional peace, security, stability and continued humanitarian assistance.“
