Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat has been celebrated nationwide after clinching the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 57 kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to commend Aman Sehrawat’s achievement, highlighting his “dedication and perseverance” in a post on X, the social media platform.
Aman Sehrawat, who made his Olympic debut this year, secured the bronze medal with a decisive 13-5 victory over Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz on August 9, 2024. This victory marked India’s first wrestling medal at the Paris 2024 Games and has garnered widespread recognition.
In his congratulatory message, PM Modi wrote, “More pride thanks to our wrestlers! Congratulations to Aman Sehrawat for winning the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Freestyle 57 kg at the Paris Olympics. His dedication and perseverance are clearly evident. The entire nation celebrates this remarkable feat.”
Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah also took to social media to praise Sehrawat. Shah wrote, “Congratulations, Aman! With your remarkable perseverance and strength, you have secured the Bronze Medal for India in the wrestling match at the #ParisOlympics2024. The nation is proud of your achievement.”
Similarly, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari expressed his admiration for Sehrawat’s accomplishment. Gadkari said, “Heartfelt congratulations to Aman Sehrawat for clinching the Bronze Medal in Men’s Freestyle 57 kg at the Paris Olympics! Your grit and determination have brought glory to on the world stage. You’ve made the nation proud with your remarkable achievement, inspiring countless others to chase their dreams.”
During the match, Aman Sehrawat faced a strong challenge from Cruz, who initially took the lead with a single-leg hold. Despite the early setback, Aman Sehrawat responded with resilience, scoring crucial points by targeting Cruz’s shoulders. After Cruz extended his lead with a two-point move, Aman Sehrawat regained control, eventually winning the bout with technical superiority as Cruz attempted a desperate maneuver and conceded additional points.
Aman Sehrawat’s victory not only adds to India’s medal tally but also serves as a source of national pride and inspiration.
