Kaamya, a Class 12 student at Navy Children School in Mumbai, began her expedition to climb the world’s highest peak, standing at 8,849 meters, on April 3. She was accompanied by her father, Commander S. Karthikeyan. The duo reached the summit on May 20, marking a significant milestone in her mountaineering journey.
The Western Naval Command celebrated Kaamya’s success on social media, stating, “After this feat, she has become the second-youngest girl in the world and the youngest Indian mountaineer to summit the world’s highest peak from the Nepal side.”
Kaamya’s accomplishment adds to her impressive record of climbing the highest peaks on six continents. She now aims to conquer Mount Vinson Massif in Antarctica this December, with the goal of becoming the youngest girl to complete the ‘7 Summits Challenge’.
In 2020, Kaamya made headlines by becoming the youngest girl in the world to climb Mount Aconcagua, the tallest peak in South America and outside of Asia.
The Indian Navy lauded Kaamya for her courage and determination, stating, “Indian Navy wishes young Kaamya the very best in her aspiration to summit the highest peaks of all seven continents, becoming the youngest girl to do so. #7SummitsChallenge.”
