20 passengers aboard a Singapore Airlines flight that encountered severe turbulence and made an emergency landing in Bangkok on Tuesday remain in intensive care, according to Adinun Kittiratanapaibool, Director of Bangkok’s Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital.
As of Thursday, the number of ICU patients remains unchanged. “Those in ICU need close attention,” Kittiratanapaibool stated, adding that there are currently no life-threatening cases. Of the 40 individuals still receiving treatment, 22 have sustained spinal cord injuries and six have brain and skull injuries. The oldest patient is 83 years old, while the youngest, a two-year-old child, suffered a concussion.
Initially, 41 people were reported to be under treatment, but one patient has since been discharged. Among the injured are ten British, nine Australian, seven Malaysian, and four Philippine citizens. A detailed breakdown of passengers and crew under treatment was not provided.
The turbulence incident occurred on Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 while flying over Myanmar. One passenger died of a suspected heart attack, and dozens were injured. Over 140 passengers and crew reached Singapore on Wednesday.
