Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is breaking new ground in the world of football and blockchain technology as it prepares to become the first major football club to act as a blockchain protocol validator on the Chiliz blockchain.
The move marks a significant milestone in the integration of blockchain technology in sports and fan engagement. PSG’s collaboration with Socios.com, the official platform for its Fan Token, will see the club actively participate in the Chiliz Chain’s consensus mechanism as a validator. This role not only enhances the operational integrity and security of the blockchain but also reinforces PSG’s commitment to digital innovation and fan engagement through web3 technologies.
PSG’s foray into the web3 space began with the launch of its Fan Token, positioning the club as a pioneer among European football clubs in embracing digital transformation. Led by Pär Helgosson, head of web3, PSG’s web3 strategy aims to leverage the PSG Fan Token to deepen fan engagement and drive digital revenue growth.
In a bid to further bolster its digital economy, PSG has pledged to utilize all revenue generated from its role as a node validator to conduct regular buy-backs of PSG Fan Tokens from the public market. This initiative seeks to support a sustainable digital economy for the club and its web3-oriented fanbase.
Moreover, PSG and Chiliz are set to co-host their inaugural blockchain hackathon at the Parc Des Princes stadium, bringing together developers from France and beyond to explore innovative applications of web3, the Chiliz Chain, and PSG Fan Tokens.
The partnership between PSG and Chiliz follows Chiliz’s recent integration with Rarible, a move that signals significant progress in the NFT marketplace and digital collectibles sector. This collaboration enables developers to create custom NFT marketplaces within the Chiliz Chain, enhancing the user experience for SportFi dapps, wallets, and marketplaces.
