Shreyasi Singh, former Commonwealth Games champion, has been selected to represent India in the women’s trap event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, announced the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Friday.
The NRAI successfully secured a quota swap from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), exchanging the women’s 10m air pistol quota for the women’s trap event. This decision came after Manu Bhaker excelled in national trials for the 10m air pistol and 25m pistol categories, freeing up a quota spot in pistol events for shotgun disciplines.
At 32 years old, Shreyasi Singh will make her Olympic debut in Paris. She previously clinched gold in the double trap event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and contributed to India’s bronze medal in the same event at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.
With Shreyasi Singh’s inclusion, India’s shooting contingent for Paris 2024 now stands at 21 athletes, marking the country’s largest-ever shooting team for the Olympics, surpassing the 15-member squad from Tokyo 2020.
Joining Shreyasi Singh in the shotgun events are Rajeshwari Kumari (women’s trap), Prithviraj Tondaiman (men’s trap), Anantjeet Singh Naruka (men’s skeet), Maheshwari Chauhan, and Raiza Dhillon (both in women’s skeet), as announced earlier this week.
India’s shooting team also includes eight athletes for rifle events, seven for pistol events, and five mixed teams across rifle, pistol, and shotgun skeet categories. The complete team for rifle and pistol events was finalized on June 11.
Shooting events at the Paris 2024 Olympics are scheduled to take place at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre from July 27 to August 5.
