Neeraj Chopra, India’s Olympic javelin champion, clinched gold at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland on Tuesday, reassuring fans about his fitness leading up to the Paris Olympics. Despite falling short of his personal best, Neeraj Chopra’s throw of 85.97 meters secured victory, dispelling doubts stemming from a recent adductor muscle injury that forced him to withdraw from the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting last month.
“I am happy with my adductor now because I could do all six throws,” Neeraj Chopra remarked on the tournament’s official website. His personal best stands at 89.94 meters, and he expressed confidence in maintaining his health in the coming weeks to deliver peak performances.
The 26-year-old athlete from India, known for his distinctive mop of hair, made history in Tokyo by becoming the country’s first track-and-field Olympic gold medalist. With preparations for Paris in full swing, Neeraj Chopra acknowledged recurring challenges with his adductor muscle, a concern he plans to address post-Olympics with consultations from medical experts.
Reflecting on his training regimen, Neeraj Chopra mentioned plans to relocate to Germany for training under his coach Klaus Bartonietz. Additionally, he is contemplating sessions in Turkey to further fine-tune his preparations ahead of the global event.
“Most of the time I train with my coach and physio, but from time to time we exchange with other coaches like Jan Zelezny,” Neeraj Chopra noted, referring to the renowned Czech javelin coach and former world-record holder.
Neeraj Chopra’s journey to maintain fitness and improve performance underscores his determination to excel on the international stage once again, carrying the aspirations of a nation eager for further sporting glory.
