India is set to send its maximum-possible team of six archers to the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking a significant achievement after securing team quotas in both the men’s and women’s recurve events.
The announcement of the six-member Indian archery squad for Paris 2024 was made on Tuesday, highlighting India’s first full quota of archers since London 2012. This includes seasoned athletes Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai, who will be making their fourth Olympic appearances in Paris.
Deepika Kumari, a stalwart in Indian Olympic archery since her debut in London 2012, continues to compete at the highest level despite becoming a mother in December 2022. Her consistency and experience make her a pivotal figure in the Indian contingent.
Tarundeep Rai, aged 40, first represented India at Athens 2004 and has since participated in London 2012, Tokyo 2020, and now Paris 2024. His longevity and expertise add depth to India’s Olympic archery team.
Pravin Jadhav returns for his second Summer Games after Tokyo 2020, bringing valuable experience to the team. Dhiraj Bommadevara, who secured an individual men’s quota from Asian qualifiers in Bangkok last year, and Bhajan Kaur, who clinched an individual women’s quota in the final archery Olympic qualifiers in Antalya this year, also earned spots on the team.
Making their Olympic debuts alongside Dhiraj and Bhajan are Ankita Bhakat and Ankita Bhakat, reflecting India’s commitment to nurturing new talent in the sport of archery.
The Indian archery team for Paris 2024 is poised to showcase its talent and compete for Olympic glory, aiming to build on past successes and make a mark on the world stage once again.
